PFS Middle East support children’s charity Sparkle!

Paul Hayward, Director PFS Middle East was approached last September to assist with shipping to Zomba in Malawi. The charity, Sparkle, which operates an orphanage with over a 100 young children, were a newly registered charity and had never imported into the country before. They needed advise and support to negotiate the physical importation of the goods through Malawi customs which has extremely high rates of duty.

Pentagon donated the packing, freight costs, documentation, customs clearance, customs duty and delivery in Malawi for the first airfreight shipment of several hundred kilos. The main items were 100 pairs of shoes which most of the children just do not have. PFS researched, found and worked with a reputable agent in Malawi who liaised with the Malawian Revenue Authority to achieve duty exemption on most items and an efficiently coordinated clearance process over a few days.

A nice coincidence was that the shipment was delivered on Christmas Eve. We are continuing to work with and assist Sparkle whose next aim is an ambulance with other essential infrastructure requirements.
