    Role Overview

    The successful candidate will be involved in the preparation of customs documentation ensuring that any shipments either imported or exported meet all applicable laws so that entry or export can occur.

    The job of the Customs Broker is a vital role within our operations team and will involve issuance and release of transit (T1) documents in the DMS system, the issuance of export documents and determining the level of duties and taxes to be paid including the processing of payments for imports on behalf of clients. You will be working with both the airfreight, the OceanFreight and 3PL / warehouse teams.  

    The successful candidate must have a solid understanding of the import and export sector from a legal perspective. Previous experience of a minimum of 5 years is essential.

    Main Duties

    • As a Customs Broker you will work as part of the Ocean operations team and report to the OceanFeight Manager.
    • You will be involved in calculating and processing duties and taxes to be paid and may be required to sign documents under a power of attorney on behalf of clients. You will also pay or arrange for payment of taxes and duties.
    • Liaising with Customers.
    • You will be entering details onto specialised customs software.
    • Allocating the correct licence depending on type of goods being imported.
    • You will be required to be fully conversant with import and export laws and regulations and expected to maintain your understanding and keep up to date with changes as they occur, to be able to advise customers on import and export restrictions, tariff systems, insurance requirements and all other customs related matters.
    • You may also be required to prepare the necessary import documentation such as certificates of origin and cargo control documents.
    • Liaising with officials in various agencies to ensure goods are cleared through customs or quarantine as well as with our Freight Forwarders throughout the company to advise when goods are cleared for import/export so that they can arrange for transportation, warehousing or product distribution of imported or exported goods.
    • Assisting with the onboarding of new clients, in addition to those already handled by team, ensuring smooth transition to our service.
    • Fully conversant with all Pentagon in-house systems (CW1 – training will be provided).
    • Accurately update any key milestones that may be required by our clients via our internal systems.
    • Understanding of and adherence to Pentagon Compliance Programme.
    • Follow client Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).

    Requirements

    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both the Dutch and the English language are essential.
    • Ability to work in a team.
    • Conscientious, accurate and flexible.
    • Resident in the greater Rotterdam area or willingness to commute to the Pentagon Rotterdam facility by car (public transport is limited).
    • The candidate must have an authorisation to work in the Netherlands.
